What does Biodegradable Sunblock mean?

By definition a biodegradable material is one which breaks down in such a way that the resulting materials can be easily absorbed into the environment without any harmful effect.

The Hawaiian Tropic Biodegradable formula was tested under laboratory conditions that assimilate what occurs in the natural environment. There are several recognized testing protocols that are accepted in this type of testing. The ISO Headspace and ASTM / OPPTS Sealed Vessel CO2 Biodegration Test was selected. The test uses the rate of CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) production as a measure of breakdown. It is recognized that products showing degradation in this manner do not present a hazard to landfill or water sources when discarded or accidentally spilled.

The Hawaiian Tropic Biodegradable formula has been deemed "readily biodegradable".
